Proposed Research: to examine the consequences of increased CXCR1 (an interleukin-8 receptor) expression in transgenic mice that can spontaneously develop atherosclerotic plaques.

Shamim Bonna (sbonn001@student.ucr.edu)
Major: Biological Sciences
Faculty Mentor: Prof. David Johnson, Biomedical Sciences
Proposed Research: to study how drugs and proteins work on a molecular level, specifically nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (AcChR), cAMP dependent protein kinase (PKA), and acetylcholinesterase (AcChE).

  Curtis Darling (cdarl001@student.ucr.edu)
Major: Biochemistry
Faculty Mentor: Prof. Manuela Martins-Green, Cell Biology and Neuroscience
Proposed Research: to determine the effects of Dexmethasone, an anti-inflammatory agent, on corneal reepithelialization when exposed to second-hand cigarette smoke.

Ronald Fong (rfong002@student.ucr.edu)
Major: Biochemistry
Faculty Mentor: Prof. Dan Strauss, Biomedical Sciences, Biology
Proposed Research: to examine the mechanism of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs), inclusive of gene expression, transport functions, and barrier functions of the colonic and ileal epithelium.

  Jacob Good (jgood003@student.ucr.edu)
Major: Chemistry
Faculty Mentor: Prof. Ludwig Bartels, Chemistry
Proposed Research: to examine the properties of molecular walkers (from Bartel's lab) and the properties of the molecular muscles synthesized in the Marsella lab.

  Cleve Hosea (cleve.hosea@email.ucr.edu)
Major: Biochemistry
Faculty Mentor: Prof. Ludwig Bartels, Chemistry
Proposed Research: to examine the impact of intermolecular interactions on the surface dynamics in the model system CO/Cu(111).

  Priti Lalchandani (plalc001@student.ucr.edu)
Major: Biological Sciences
Faculty Mentor: Prof. Andrew Grosovsky, Cell Biology and Neuroscience
Proposed Project: to examine if the chromosomal breakage associated with abnormalities in replication fork progression and stabilization are critically involved in the instability observed following random integration of heterochromatin into test cell genomes.

  Brian Lonquich (blonq001@student.ucr.edu)
Major: Biology
Faculty Mentor: Prof. Ted Garland, Biology
Proposed Project: to determine if mice, which selectively breed for high voluntary locomotor activity on a daily basis, also possess higher locomotor endurance capacities.

  Janelle McNabb (jmcna002@student.ucr.edu)
Major: Biochemistry
Faculty Mentor: Prof. Marlene Zuk, Biology
Proposed Research: to determine how female crickets find their male mates by observing the interaction between the two.

  Michael Panowicz (mpano001@student.ucr.edu)
Major: Biochemistry
Faculty Mentor: Prof. Xuan Liu, Biochemistry
Proposed Research: to define the role of the B'y3-p53 interaction and resulting dephosphorylation in tumorigenesis.

  Parth Parikh (parth.parikh@email.ucr.edu)
Major: Biochemistry
Faculty Mentor: Prof. Gerhard Gierz, Mathematics
